Martinez for RNC...

Mel Martinez has been selected for RNC Chairman. This is a very good selection.

Not only has Martinez been able to win his Senate race, but his selection is a repudiation of the immigration hard-liners that cost the GOP at least three House seats on their own.

The hard-liners promised the GOP that their approach would secure them the Congressional majorities. They promised that if the House GOP told off George W. Bush, the business community, moderates and small-l libertarians, it would not hurt the GOP. Remember Charlie Norwood telling that staffer from CRS he was "disappointed"?

They misled the GOP, and in the process of doing so, they have forfeited any trust from the GOP. This should have been obvious when Chris Cannon survived his primary in one of the most Republican districts in the country. Yet they persisted, and now, the GOP has to win back those the hard-liners alienated.

Unless they want to be in the minority forever.

I agree completely.

Looks like these people are finally exposing their anti-Hispanic bigotry.

Can't win back the hardliners anymore than we can negotiate with terrorists. They need to be smashed like bugs on a windshield. I agree with you -- Martinez is an excellent choice and a finger in the eye of the Tancredo loons. Trouble is, the Dems will get all the credit for passing comprehensive immigration reform while the pitchforkers inflict more damage on the GOP. Still, it's the right thing to do and I will stand up and applaud if/when the deed finally gets done.

Has anyone else noticed that FoxNews has become Tancredo News Network? I'm barely watching, but the few times I've checked in since the election, it's all anti-immigration punctuated by Britney Spears news alerts. I turned on Sean Hannity in the car briefly yesterday and heard a 2-3 minute "amnesty" rant that showed no signs of waning when I changed stations. There's nowhere to turn it seems, except this oasis and a few other underpopulated cyber-gatherings.
